New (old?) Car

A few years ago I had a very cute orange Honda Fit, aka Orange Dream Machine, which is also a drink at Jamba Juice. It had a few mods here and there like new rims, window visors and LED tail lights.

Rolling Shot! Adorbs!

Unfortunately, one night I stupidly went out when everyone was saying it was going to ice over–which NEVER happens in Houston. I thought the forecasters were overreacting about the weather like they usually do. But this time they were right… I ending up losing control of the car on an overpass.

This is what ice causes…

It was totaled and I had nothing to drive. I had to come up with a car quick. My uncle wanted to get rid of his payments and I needed something, anything. So I bought his Honda Civic, Mikayla, as I named her.

Nice and simple Civic

But I’m anything but simple. It’s a nice car but it just wasn’t me. I brainstormed on what car I’d like to own. Acura TL? Nice, but too big. Honda Accord or Civic? They’re just okay. Other options wasted too much gas or only were manual transmission.

Why the hell don’t I just get another Honda Fit?

I started looking…

Is this what I think it is?

Some fixed up my old car and was selling it! What a coincidence–if you believe in all that.

I continued my search and found another orange Honda Fit with super low miles at a dealership 5 miles away from my house. How about that?!

My new baby!

She’s a beaut. I just have no idea what to name her. Any suggestions?

A Week’s Worth of Project 365

Dont worry, I haven’t forgotten about the 365 Project–here goes a week of pictures!

Day 6 – January 23rd

My mom’s pup. Well, he still thinks he’s a pup. He was mine until I realized I couldn’t take care of him. Now she won’t give him up since he’s her little baby! What a cute face.

Day 7 – January 24th

Relatively boring day as you can tell; just another day at work. I love my cute little calendar that my boss gave me though. Ooh, and paperclips!

Day 8 – January 25th

My idea of packing: sitting on the couch, looking at the box. My junk was everywhere…

Day 9 – January 26th

My bosses at Happy Hour on Thursday. They’re married, can you tell? They are pretty awesome couple to work for, if I say so myself.

Day 10 – January 27th

Mr. Hazel Eyes and I moved into a house! This was the day before move-in. He was waiting for the utilities to be turned on.

Day 11 – January 28th

Our living quarters for the first night. A mattress and some pillows in the living room. It was kind of like a camp out, except with TV!

Day 12 – January 29th

My wonderful Mom already brought me a housewarming gift! Dr Pepper with REAL sugar. Who could ask for more?

It’s been a hectic week, but I managed to take a picture a day.. with a couple of the pictures being at the very end of the day.

How the Hell Did They Do That?! Credit Card Fraud Assholes..

I’m not 100% sure this is what happened.. but this is my gut feeling, so just go with it..

Last week before Thanksgiving, the boyfriend and I went out to eat at a local Mexican restaurant. It’s been right around the corner forever, but neither of us had actually eaten there before. So we decided to take the big leap and try something new. The food was good and pretty cheap; the margaritas were fantastic.. especially since we barely made happy hour. The check came and one of our several waiters picked up the credit card. I soon realized that there was a cashier up front, where everyone else was paying their tab–first sign. It felt like an eternity before I received my card back… second sign. I had that feeling deep in my gut that something was wrong, but as usual, I didn’t say anything. I really need to start paying attention to that feeling..

Over the weekend I was receiving these weird 1-800 number calls, I really didn’t think anything of it until I went out to get some food and my card was declined–twice. Talk about embarrassing! At least it wasn’t at Target during Black Friday sales, that would have sucked! Again, the 1-800 called and I picked up this time. It was my bank; they recognized possible fraud on my account. They detected the fraud fairly quickly! Thank you Wells Fargo! I asked them how it was detected and they said a $120 ticket at Walgreens looked suspicious. Another charge was to Shell for $55–which was definitely not me since my tank won’t even fill to $45.. (at least right now) So I’m grateful that my bank found out within a few days and notified me! But now I have to live without a debit card.. Woe as me!

But seriously, to all you people who copy credit card information–you suck!! I don’t really know how you were able to charge on my card, when I still freaking have the thing in my wallet! It’s not like they were online purchases… which happened to my boyfriend, two days after my issue. Agh, get a life people and stop stealing other’s money!

Movies, Movies and More Movies

Yesterday I watched Fried Green Tomatoes for the first time. When a couple people said, “How have you not seen Fried Green Tomatoes?!” I thought they were just overreacting.. movies are just movies.. nothing special. I’m one of those people who prefers TV over a movie any day. But this movie was AH-MAY-ZING! I laughed, I cried, I told my boyfriend to shut up so I could watch the very end of it. (Yeah, I’m a bitch, what of it?) Anyways, I loved the movie, so I’ve compiled a list of some more movies I need to see.

I’ve seen some “must see” movies like Scarface, the Green Mile and the Shawshank Redemption. But for the most part I haven’t watched–or even heard of–many classic movies. Compiling my list, I kind of cheated and started from the IMDB Top 250.

And by the way, some aren’t classics–just ones I really want to see..

  1. 50/50
  2. American Beauty
  3. Casablanca
  4. Donnie Darko
  5. Full Metal Jacket
  6. Goodfellas
  7. Hotel Rwanda
  8. It’s a Wonderful Life
  9. Miracle on 34th Street
  10. Once Upon a time in America
  11. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
  12. Precious
  13. Requiem for a Dream
  14. Risky Business
  15. Say Anything…
  16. Schindler’s List
  17. Se7en
  18. Silence of the Lambs
  19. Singin’ in the Rain
  20. Slumdog Millionaire
  21. Snatch
  22. The Departed
  23. The Elephant Man
  24. The Exorcist
  25. The Freedom Writers
  26. The Godfather
  27. The Godfather: Part II
  28. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
  29. The Help
  30. The Nightmare before Christmas
  31. The Passion of the Christ
  32. The Shining

Do you have any more suggestions so that I can keep the Must See Movie List going?

Brushing Up on my Skills: Excel for Dummies

Before I started the job I have now, I had almost zero experience in Excel. I mean, I knew the basics of how to enter information and values into cells and auto sum those values. But that was the extent of my knowledge.

Later, after training for accounting, I learned the ins and outs of the program. Not exactly fluent in my skills, but I learned and got better with time.

Now they’ve hired someone new to take over the accounting position and she barely knows Excel. And the shortcuts… forgetaboutit! Talk about starting from the beginning…

Anyway, the company has offered for both of us to take Excel classes… on their dime! They’re paying for it AND I’m getting paid… what’s better than that?! First class is next Friday–all day long. I’m assuming that it will be mostly review for me, but you never know, I may be learning some valuable information. I can just picture this first class being full of old people who barely know how to use a computer… But I’m really looking forward to the more advanced class though, which is December 8th.

Wish me luck! Slowly but surely I’m crossing things off my bucket list!
